Tars Fall to Top-Ranked Lions

Tars Fall to Top-Ranked Lions

No. 49 Rollins – 0
No. 1 Saint Leo – 9

SAINT LEO, Fla. (April 4, 2018) – The top-ranked Lions proved to be too much for the No. 49 Tars, as Rollins fell on their trip to the campus of Saint Leo University, 9-0.  With the defeat the Tars fall to 6-11 on the year, and 1-4 in Sunshine State Conference play.  The No. 1 Lions improve to 16-0, and a perfect 5-0 in conference action.

The Tars fell behind early, as Rollins was unable to take a doubles match.  Thomas Ginberg and Vincent Suillerot defeated Nicolo De Fraia and Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz on the top court in a battle of the No. 10 and No. 11 doubles pairs in the country.  The Lions also played the No. 45 doubles team on the second court who proved too much for Cody Gubin and Frederick Danielson

The Tars could not get any momentum going in singles play either.  Nicolas-Ruiz won the only set of the match for the Tars.  Ranked as the No. 65 player in the nation by the ITA, Nicolas-Ruiz just missed an upset of the Lions No. 52 Jamie Bueno, falling 7-5, 6-7, 10-7 in a three set marathon in the third position.

Rollins will return to Winter Park for a match up against No. 25 Palm Beach Atlantic.  First serve against the Sailfish is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 7.
