Third Set Losses Stifle Tars' Upset Bid

Third Set Losses Stifle Tars' Upset Bid

No. 49 Rollins – 3
No. 21 Palm Beach Atlantic - 6

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 7, 2018) – The No. 49 Tars were unable to pull the upset on senior day, falling to the No. 21 Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 6-3.  With the loss Rollins drops to 6-12 overall and 1-5 in Sunshine State conference action.  Palm Beach Atlantic improves to 14-7, and 4-2 in SSC play.

Rollins fell behind, 2-1, early, after doubles play.  The Sailfish took the top two matches.  Rollins would salvage a point in the third spot, where Cody Gubin and Sami Kirberg would capture a hard fought 9-7 victory.

Rollins would take two of the first three singles matches to be decided, but a trio of three set losses doomed the Tars' upset dreams.  Kirberg picked up his second win of the day on the third singles court, cruising by Rodolfo Hasegawa 6-0, 6-3.  Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz would tally the final point of the match for the Tars.  Ranked as the No. 65 player in the nation by the ITA, Nicolas-Ruiz easily knocked off Phillip Hoffmann 6-2, 6-3.

For their next contest the Tars will leave Winter Park for the final time this regular season.  Rollins will head to Lakeland to face off against the No. 43 Florida Southern Mocs on Tuesday, April 10, at 3 p.m.
