WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 14, 2018) – The Tars dug themselves a hole in doubles play, but dominated singles action to win their regular season finale over Sunshine State Conference foe Florida Tech. With the victory No. 43 Rollins improves to 8-12 on the year, and 3-5 against SSC competition. The Panthers fall to 8-8 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
The Tars would flex their muscles in singles play to complete the comeback, winning five of the six matches. Sami Kirberg picked up his second win over nationally ranked competition in the week, defeating No. 55 Aria Canadell Solana easily, 6-4, 6-2. Cody Gubin would pick up the Tars next win, capturing the fifth court match by a score of 7-5, 6-1. Danielson tallied his second win of the afternoon on the sixth court, sailing by Gerard Carpinell by a score of 6-4, 6-1. Atakan Gezer won a first set tiebreaker on his way to a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win in the third spot. Francesco Racanelli would round out the Tars victory, closing the match with a three set win, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, in the second spot, over James Finnigan.
The Tars will now wait to find out their postseason fate. The SSC Tournament will take place in Bradenton, Florida, at IMG Academy, from Thursday, April 19 through Saturday, April 21.
