TEMPE, Ariz. (April 18, 2018) – After closing the regular season with a pair of wins over Sunshine State Conference opponents, Rollins jumped to No. 37 in the ITA National Rankings this week. Nicolo De Fraia held steady at No. 25 in the singles poll, while Sami Kirberg leaped up the board, and Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz remained among the nation's best. De Fraia and Nicolas-Ruiz slid in the doubles poll due to rest.
Rollins defeated Florida Southern and Florida Tech to move up from No. 43 to No. 37. The Tars now must prepare for the postseason, where they will face No. 5 Lynn in the first round of the SSC Tournament.
De Fraia did not take part in single play last week as he held at No. 25 in the national poll. The junior remains 10-7 on the year, playing exclusively in the first position. The junior has picked up five wins against nationally ranked opposition.
Kirberg filled in for De Fraia in the top spot, and picked up a pair of wins over nationally ranked foes, propelling him from No. 66 to No. 42 in the poll. The sophomore now sits at 7-4 on the year, playing out of the first, second, and third positions.
Nicolas-Ruiz slides to No. 69 this week. The junior currently sits at 12-7 on the year, playing on the first three courts. He has picked up two wins against nationally ranked competition, and is on a two match winning streak.
The doubles partnership of De Fraia and Nicolas Ruiz dropped from No. 11 to No. 16 after the pair rested this week. Overall the duo is 8-7 on the year with a pair of wins over nationally ranked foes.
Rollins takes on No. 5 Lynn in Sunshine State Conference Tournament Quarterfinal action tomorrow, April 19, at 3:30 p.m. The SSC Tournament is being held at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, and is being hosted by Lynn University.
