TEMPE, Ariz. (May 29, 2018) – Following the completion of the NCAA Division II Tennis Tournament, the ITA has released their final national and regional rankings for 2018. As a team the Tars finish No. 40 in the nation, and No. 9 in the South Region. Nicolo De Fraia, Sami Kirberg, and Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz all represent Rollins in the singles polls, while De Fraia and Nicolas-Ruiz earn doubles recognition.
Rollins finished the year 8-13 overall, and 3-5 in the Sunshine State Conference, and were eliminated in the SSC Tournament Quarterfinal, all while playing one of the toughest schedules in the nation. Rollins comes in at No. 40 in the national poll, and rank as the No. 9 team in the South Region; six of the ten regionally ranked teams come from the SSC.
Nicolo De Fraia leads the Tars singles contingent, ranking No. 23 in the national singles poll and No. 11 in the regional singles poll to end his junior campaign. The Cagliari, Italy, native went 10-7 in his first year in the Blue and Gold, playing in the first position. Kirberg, at No. 54, and Nicolas-Ruiz, at No. 59, round out the Tars ranked singles competitors. The pair split time between the second and third positions, going 7-4 and 12-7 respectively.
De Fraia and Nicolas-Ruiz teams up to form the No. 22 doubles pair in the nation, and the No. 7 pair in the region according to the ITA. The duo went 8-8 on the year, defeating a pair of nationally ranked teams along the way.
