WEST PLAM BEACH, Fla. (September 16, 2018) – Rollins participated in the Sailfish Invitational, hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic, from Friday, September 14 through Sunday, September 16. The event was the first play of the Fall season for the squad, who ended the weekend with a number of promising outcomes.
The Tars top doubles partnership of Nicolo De Fraia and Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz fell in the opening round of the Men's #1 Doubles Flight, but advanced through the consolation bracket to take sixth. Newcomer Gai Feigin teamed up with Ziad Melhaoui to earn a runner up finish in the #2 Flight. Atakan Gezer and Luke Horan won their opening Flight #3 match, and ultimately earned a fourth place result. Cody Gubin and Frederick Danielson earned a first round bye in the Fourth Flight, and won their second match to advance to the championship.
Cody Gubin won the Flight #5 singles title to highlight singles play for Rollins. The senior downed Stanislav Feofilov of Palm Beach Atlantic 6-2, 6-1 in the final match. Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz lead Rollins in the Men's #1 Singles Flight, falling in his first match, but taking fifth place by sweeping the competition in the consolation bracket. Guy Feign defeated Ghali Mensour to take seventh place in Flight #2. Atakan Gezer took sixth in Flight #3 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Barry's Flavio Matteoli. Ziad Melhaoui also earned a sixth place result in the #4 Flight, while Frederick Danielson finished fifth in Flight #6.
The Tars will now prepare for the ITA South Regional Championship, which will take place in Lakeland, Florida from Friday, September 21 to Monday, September 24.
