Tars Get Strong Showings at ITA South Regional

LAKELAND, Fla. (September 24, 2018) – Rollins faced off against the best from around the South Region at the ITA South Regional Championships.  The Tars sent four players, who each competed in singles, and teamed up to form two doubles partnerships.

Gai Feigin and Ziad Melhaoui highlighted Rollins doubles efforts at the event.  The duo defeated teams from top ranked programs, Lynn, Barry and Embry-Riddle to advance to the quarterfinals of the competition.  Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz and Atakan Gezer advanced out of the first round, but fell in the second round.

Melhaoui had a similarly solid showing in singles play to lead the Tars.  The senior defeated players from Saint Leo, FIT, and West Florida on a march to the quarterfinals.  Feigin cruised through his first match, 6-1, 6-2 but fell to seeded Lucca Baptista of Lynn in the second round.  Gezer and Nicolas-Ruiz both won their first two games of the consolation bracket, before finding themselves paired against each other.  Nicolas-Ruiz won the match between the two Tars, however, he forced to withdraw his consolation semifinal match.

The Tars will now prepare to host the Varner Invitational from October 5 through October 6, on the campus of Rollins College.
