WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 17, 2019) – Rollins stayed perfect to start 2019, picking up a 7-0 win over Division I Army West Point. Rollins now sits at 2-0 on the campaign, while the Black Knights fall to 1-7 on the year.
Rollins earned the doubles point with a convincing sweep of the Cadets. Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz and Atakan Gezer started the match with a 6-1 win in the third position. The No. 17 pair of Ziad Melhaoui and Gai Feigin clinched the point, with a 6-1 win of their own in the first spot. Nicolo De Fraia and Frederick Danielson competed the sweep with a 6-3 win on the second court.
Freshman Andrea Brignacca earned his second collegiate win to start singles play for the Tars. The Italian took a 6-4, 6-2 decision in the sixth position. Melhaoui, who ranks as the No. 21 singles player in the nation, captured a 6-3, 6-4 victory in the third spot. Nicolas-Ruiz secured the win for the Tars with a second position win. The senior recovered from a first set loss to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. De Fraia fought through fatigue to win 6-4, 7-5 in the first spot. Feigin and Gezer completed the shutout, each picking up three set wins on the fourth and fifth courts.
Rollins will return to the court on Thursday, February 21, when they face off against Bates at 3 p.m.
