Rollins Comes From Behind to Best Bates

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 21, 2019) – Rollins stayed unbeaten, coming from behind to defeat the Bates Bobcats, 6-1, under the lights at the Bert Martin Tennis Complex.  The Tars improve to 3-0 on the year, while Bates falls in their season opener to sit at 0-1.

The Tars lost the doubles point, falling in two of the three matches.  The losses marked the first defeats the Tars have suffered in 2019.  Rollins lone win came on the third court, where Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz and Atakan Gezer cruised to a 6-1 win.

The Tars would rebound from their doubles defeats to sweep the singles matches.  Nicolas-Ruiz tied the overall score at 1-1 with a dominating performance, winning 6-2, 6-0 on the second court.  Andrea Brignacca continued his perfect start to his collegiate career with a 6-1, 7-5 sixth position win.  Atakan Gezer picked up his second win of the day, defeating Alex Kennedy 7-5, 6-0 in the fifth spot.  Gai Feigin locked up the match for Rollins, earning the Tars fourth point with a 6-4, 6-4 win on the fourth court.  Ziad Melhaoui protected his No. 20 national singles ranking with a three set win in the third spot, while Nicolo De Fraia completed the singles sweep with a 5-7, 7-5, 10-4 marathon on the top court.

The Tars will head to the USTA National Campus to face Davenport on Sunday, February 24.  First serve against the Panthers is set for 6 p.m.
