WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 28, 2019) – The Tars stayed perfect by upsetting No. 15 Flagler, 5-2, at Bert Martin Tennis Complex. With the win Rollins improves to 5-0 with Sunshine State Conference play starting later this week. Flagler had a three game win streak snapped by the Tars, and move to 5-3 on the year.
The Saints took the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. Flagler won on courts three and one to earn the lead. Nicolo De Fraia and Frederick Danielson won the second position match, 6-4, to shift the momentum of the contest.
Andrea Brignacca moved to 5-0 on the year, cruising home with a 6-2, 6-0 win on the fifth court, leveling the overall score 1-1. Atakan Gezer won easily in the sixth to put Rollins on top. Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz picked up a key win in the second spot. The senior downed Rasmus Jonsson 6-2, 6-4. De Fraia sealed the match for Rollins. After a hotly contested first set, the captain sailed home in the second, winning 6-4, 6-2. The No. 21 player in the nation, Ziad Melhaoui, picked up a three set victory to extend the Tars' advantage. The Menkes, Morocco native took a first set tiebreak before winning 7-6, 4-6, 10-8.
Rollins begins SSC action at Lynn on March 2. First serve against the Fighting Knights is set for 10 a.m.
