Tars Suffer First Setback of 2019 at No. 3 Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 2, 2019) – The Tars fell for the first time in the 2019 campaign, as they were unable to upend the No. 3 Lynn Fighting Knights.  The Tars dropped the match 5-2, moving to 5-1 on the year, and 0-1 in the Sunshine State Conference.  Lynn improves to 6-1 overall, and 3-0 in SSC action. 

The Fighting Knights took two of the three doubles matches to earn the point.  The Tars pair of Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz and Atakan Gezer improved to 4-1 on the year, picking up a third position doubles win, to open the match.  After Lynn took the second court match to level the contest, the Fighting Knights were able to capture the point with a tiebreak win on the top court.

Gezer earned his second win of the day, pulling the Tars level with a 6-2, 6-4 sixth spot victory.  Lynn captured the next three matches on courts two, five, and three, clinching the match with their fourth point.  Nicolo De Fraia stayed unbeaten in singles play, upsetting the No. 43 player in the country, Kay Bartmann, with a win in the top position.  The senior earned the three set victory 7-5, 4-6, 10-4.

The Tars return to Winter Park to take on Division I Mount St. Mary's on Monday, March 4.  First serve is set for 3 p.m.
