Short-Handed Tars Fall to Crusaders

Short-Handed Tars Fall to Crusaders

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 6, 2019) – The Tars could not upend Division I Valparaiso, using a short bench in the midst of crowded week of action.  The Crusaders handed Rollins a 6-1 loss on Tiedtke Tennis Court.  The Tars fall to 6-2 overall during the 2019 campaign.  Valpo improves to 8-3 on the year.

The Crusaders took a pair of doubles matches to earn the point.  Valparaiso took the second court match to start the contest.  Rollins won the third position match, with Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz and Atakan Gezer taking a 6-4 decision.  Nicolo De Fraia and Andrea Brignacca fell in the first spot, dropping a tight doubles match in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5).

The Crusaders won the first two singles points to take a commanding 3-0 lead.  Atakan Gezer would win his second match of the day in the third spot, defeating his opponent 6-4, 6-1, making the score 3-1.  That was as close as the Tars would get, as Valparaiso took the final three matches, including a three set marathon on the first court.

Rollins will continue their string of non-conference foes with a showdown against Wayne State on Saturday, March 9.  First serve against the Warriors is set for 11 a.m.
