WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 28, 2019) – Rollins earned their second consecutive Sunshine State Conference victory, defeating the No. 50 Embry-Riddle Eagles, 6-1, at Bert Martin Tennis Complex. The No. 12 Tars improve to 13-2 on the year, and 2-1 against SSC foes. The Eagles drop to 4-6 and 1-2 in conference action.
The Tars took two doubles matches to earn the point from team play. Rollins started with a convincing 6-1 win in the third position, Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz and Atakan Gezer easing to the victory. After Embry-Riddle took the top court battle, the point swung on the second position. Nicolo De Fraia and Frederick Danielson clinched the tally for the Tars, earning a 6-3 win.
The Tars would take the first three singles decisions to seal the overall win. Atakan Gezer remained perfect in singles action cruising to a fifth spot win, 6-0, 6-2. Gai Feigin also shutout his opponent in the first set, giving Rollins a 3-0 overall lead, with a 6-0, 6-4 fourth spot victory. Freshman Andrea Brignacca clinched the match for the Tars. The Turin, Italy native sent a backhand down the line, past an out stretched Eagles opponent to earn a 7-5, 6-2 win. De Fraia padded the Tars lead, and remained unbeaten as well, winning a second set tiebreak for a 6-2, 7-6(5), straight set, top court, win. Nicolas-Ruiz rounded out the event with the Tars final point. The senior took a three set battle in the second spot 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.
The Tars return to action on Saturday, March 30, when they head south to visit the No. 1 Barry Buccaneers. First serve in Miami Shores is set for 10 a.m.
