Tars Fall to No. 1 Barry Despite De Fraia Upset

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (March 30, 2019) – The Tars were unable to down the top-ranked Barry Bucs.  Despite some impressive individual performances, and a pair of upsets, the bucs proved too much, defeating Rollins 6-1.  The loss drops Rollins to 13-3 overall, and 2-2 in Sunshine State Conference action.  Barry moves to 11-1, and remain perfect, at 4-0, in SSC play.

The Bucs earned the first doubles win, but the Tars would quickly equalize on the top court.  Ziad Melhaoui and Andrea Brignacca tallied a 6-4 upset win over the No. 16 doubles partnership in the country.  The doubles point was decided on the second court where Barry was able to win a tiebreaker, putting Rollins in a 1-0 hole.

The Bucs took the opening three doubles decisions, in the sixth, second, and third spots, sealing the match.  Barry picked up wins on the fourth and fifth courts as well.  Nicolo De Fraia made sure the Tars avoided the upset, and had perhaps the most impressive showing of the night on the top singles court.  The senior defended his perfect mark, moving to 15-0, with an upset win over the nations' No. 3 singles player Pierre Montrieul.  The Cagliari, Italy native took a marathon first set, before seeing out the second to take a 7-6(10), 6-4 victory.

The Tars will venture outside the SSC for the final time this regular season when they host No. 9 West Florida to Winter Park on Sunday, April 7.  First serve against the Argos is set for 11 a.m.
