TEMPE, Ariz. (April 10, 2019) – The Tars fell four places, but stayed securely among the nation's elite, as Rollins now sits at No. 16 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Rankings. Nicolo De Fraia jumped seven spots, and now sits on the verge of the top-10, at No. 13, in the National Singles Rankings. Freshman Andrea Brignacca and senior Ziad Melhaoui continue to climb the National Doubles Ranks, settling at No. 19, up from No. 38 last week.
The Tars lost back-to-back matches for the first time in 2019 last week. The then No. 12 Tars were unable to upset No. 1 Barry or No. 10 West Florida.
Nicolo De Fraia, the reigning Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, continued his hot streak, and sits at 16-0 on the year in singles play. The senior has played exclusively in the first position for the Tars, and has tallied three wins over nationally ranked opposition. Included in those victories is a straight set win over then No. 5 Serdar Bojadjiev of West Florida last time out.
Brignacca and Melhaoui have taken over the top doubles court for the Tars in recent matches. The pair are 4-1 overall on the year, and have picked up two wins over nationally ranked foes. The pair downed the No. 40 team in the country in the Tars last match, against West Florida.
Barry, at No. 1, Saint Leo, at No. 9, and Lynn, at No. 10, headline poll for the SSC. The Tars are just outside the top-15, at No. 16, while No. 23 Palm Beach Atlantic round out the top-25. No. 36 Florida Southern and No. 37 Embry-Riddle also feature in the rankings.
The Tars continue their run of difficult opponents with a visit from No. 9 Saint Leo tomorrow, Thursday, April 11. First serve against the Lions is set for 3 p.m.
