Tars Triumph on Senior Day

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 14, 2019) – Rollins proved too much for Palm Beach Atlantic, as the No. 16 Tars seized a senior day victory, 5-2.  Rollins celebrated the careers of Salvadore Bolanos, Nicolo De Fraia, Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz, Daniel Ferl, Cody Gubin, and Ziad Melhaoui prior to the first serve.  With the win Rollins improves to 15-5 overall, and 4-3 in Sunshine State Conference action.  The No. 23 Sailfish fall to 13-6, and 1-5 in conference play.

Rollins swept doubles play on their way to the point. Nicolas-Ruiz and Atakan Gezer earned their 15th doubles win of the season, 6-1, on the third court, to start play.  Melhaoui and Gai Feigin reunited to take the first court match, 6-2.  De Fraia and Frederick Danielson completed the Tars doubles dominance with a 6-4 win in the second spot.

The Sailfish took two of the first three singles results, evening to overall score at 2-2, but Rollins would win all the remaining matches to earn a comfortable win.  Ferl competed in the fifth spot on his senior day, but came up short in the opening match.  Gezer picked up his second win of the afternoon to tally the first singles point for Rollins.  The sophomore improved to 16-1 on the year with a 6-2, 6-2, fourth spot victory.  Gubin saw his first action of the year on senior day, but also fell, in the sixth spot.  Nicolas-Ruiz took a straight set decision on the second court to put Rollins on the brink of victory.  The senior improved to 14-3 with the 6-4, 6-2 win.  Feigin sealed the Tars' triumph, taking a hotly contested first set before cruising in the second, earning a 7-5, 6-2 win on the third court.  De Fraia, who entered the match as the No. 13 player in the country, recovered from a second set defeat to win his first position contest, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.  The senior is now 18-1 on the year.

The Tars close the regular season next Wednesday, April 17, when they travel to Lakeland to take on Florida Southern.  First serve against the Mocs is set for 3 p.m.
