Tars Tame Mocs to Close Season with Victory

LAKELAND, Fla. (April 17, 2019) – The Tars matched their highest win total since 2012 by defeating rival Florida Southern, 6-1, on the road.  Rollins, ranked No. 10 in the ITA Rankings, improves to 16-5 on the year, and 5-3 in the Sunshine State Conference.  The No. 35 Mocs end their regular season at 9-12, and 3-5 in conference play.

The Tars fell in two of the three doubles matches, dropping the team point on the day.  Nicolo De Fraia and Frederick Danielson registered Rollins lone win, taking the second match 6-3.

The Tars would go on to sweep singles play, and earn the comfortable victory.  Atakan Gezer continued his impressive campaign, tallying Rollins first point with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the fourt position.  Freshman Andrea Brignacca returned to the lineup with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the fifth spot.  Nicolo De Fraia, the No. 16 player in the nation, cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win, improving to 19-1, on the top court.  Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz recovered from a rocky second set to take the second court match 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.  Cody Gubin picked up his first win of the season in the sixth position.  The senior led his match 6-1, 4-6, 3-2 when his opponent was forced to retire.

The Tars will wait to learn their SSC Tournament fate.  The event will begin on Friday, April 26, in Bradenton, Florida, on the campus of IMG Academy.
