The Tars enter postseason play as the fourth seed in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament. The No. 10 Tars have won their last three, including a win over No. 36 Florida Southern to end the 2019 regular season campaign. The Tars first round opponent will be the fifth-seeded, and No. 31, Embry-Riddle Eagles. The tournament will take place at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Rollins downed the then No. 50 Eagles at home on March 28, by a score of 6-1. The Tars are set to begin their quest for their 19th SSC Championship.
WHO TO WATCH:
The Tars currently 83-28 overall in singles action. Nicolo De Fraia sits at No. 13 winning both his matches last week to improve to 18-1 playing exclusively in the top position. The Cagliari, Italy native has also earned three wins over nationally ranked foes. Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz sits at 14-3 playing predominantly out of the second position. Atakan Gezer has compiled a 16-1 record, seeing action in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth positions. The sophomore is 6-1 against SSC opposition. The pair of Ziad Melhaoui and Andrea Brignacca continued to move up the National Doubles Rankings. The pair sit at 5-1 overall on the season, and at No. 19 in the country.
The Eagles ended their regular season with a brutal run, losing to No. 6 Hawaii Pacific and No. 10 Lynn before closing the campaign with an upset victory over No. 4 Saint Leo. The Eagles sit just above .500, at 51-47 in singles play this year. Andres Donayre leads the squad, going 9-3 in the top position, and 10-6 overall, and sitting at No. 46 in the ITA National Singles Rankings. Alexis Guedy is tied with Donayre for the team lead with 10 wins, going 10-4 out of the second and third positions. Guedy and Andrej Omeragic have seen a majority of the top position doubles play, going 6-7 on the year, while Donayre and Juan Ortiz Couder have played in the top spot four time, registering a perfect 4-0 mark. The Eagles, as a team, are 31-23 in doubles action.
The winner of the first-round matchup will advance to SSC Tournament Semifinals to take on the winner of the match between top-seeded Barry and eighth-seeded Florida Tech. The semifinals are scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 27, at 10 a.m.
