WINTER PARK, Fla. (July 24, 2018) – Rollins Athletics is proud to announce the addition of Dave Herbster, who will take over as the head coach of the Tars' sailing team.
Talking to Herbster, he is upbeat and optimistic, saying, "I'm excited to join Rollins Sailing and to come alongside this hard working team. I can't wait for the start of the season."
Herbster has coached multiple sports at multiple levels with teams that always worked hard, prepared well, and played loose. He will coach Rollins Sailing as it competes in the Intercollegiate Sailing Association, and he will teach three classes of sailing as well.
Herbster grew up on the waters of Chesapeake Bay where he sailed with his family. He attended Rollins where he was a fraternity president, student court judge, assistant to the Athletic Director, and often at the Rollins boathouse. He graduated from Rollins with degrees in Business Administration, and Environmental Studies.
After graduation Herbster spent a career with the State of Florida, including ten years on the water operating safely in all sorts of weather and conditions, and another seven as coordinator of watercraft safety for his district. For the past five years, he led development of his district's mentoring program.
He is married to fellow Rollins Alum Janice Moore '83.
The Tars sailing schedule gets underway on September 15th and 16th in Charleston, South Carolina with the SAISA Open.
