ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (September 13, 2018) – The Tars opened the sailing campaign at the SAISA Women's Open. Rollins earned a ninth-place finish with a total of 182 points. College of Charleston took first with 41 points, while the University of South Florida and Jacksonville University rounded out the top-three.
The marks the first time Rollins has fielded a team in an all-women regatta. The Tars were captained by skippers Teagan Walsh and Corrine Keogh. The crew members for Rollins were Maggie Burns and Rose Nadler. The quartet faced some of the top collegiate sailors in the country, and improved throughout the competition, posting their best results in the late races.
Head Coach Dave Herbster was happy with his team's performance, saying, "Rollins can be proud of this team. They came to compete with the best in our conference and never gave up."
The Tars were scheduled to compete in the SAISA open on September 15th and 16th, however, the event was cancelled due to Hurricane Florence. The Tars are part of a tentatively scheduled informal event in Tampa Bay during those dates instead.
