Tars Face Difficult Conditions in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (October 1, 2018) - Tars traveled north over the weekend, to Jacksonville University, to compete against Florida's top sailing programs, amid the light breezes and heavy currents on the St. Johns River.

The first races of the day were sailed at a virtual crawl with sails full but forward motion almost nullified by a swift rising tide from the other direction.

The Tars took three pairs of sailors to the regatta Nick Baker and Simon Munoz, Harrison Fang and Corinne Keogh, and Cooper Anderson and Fernando Herrera. All represented Rollins well on the water.

"It was challenging, and we sailed hard from start to finish," said Head Coach, Dave Herbster. "Best of all, we came away energized about the day and where we need to work."

Up next for the Tars is a weekend clinic with competitive sailing expert Geoff Becker who will come to Lake Virginia October 6-8 to help the Rollins Varsity Sailors as they continue to grow.
