Rollins Hosts Regatta on Lake Virginia

WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 22, 2018) - On Saturday, October 20, another gorgeous day at Rollins College, the Tars hosted the University of South Florida, New College, and the Florida Institute of Technology, on the friendly confines of Lake Virginia, for a developmental regatta.

The four rivals came together for the purpose of of giving experience to promising sailors who were ready for the chance to compete in formal competition.

Rollins was led by skippers Johann Peralta, Nicholas Catranis, Jack Dillard, Samantha Capozzi and Carter Castanza, and ably crewed by Jennifer Morgan, Emily Daley, Kevin Thacker, Angela Kerns, and Connor McNamara.

The Tars fielded two teams and finished first or second a combined five times.

Over a dozen sailors, from all teams involved, took part in some of their first collegiate competition.

Coach David Herbster was pleased with the event, "What a great day. About half our team is relatively new to competitive sailing, and we wanted this opportunity for them and for others in our conference to have fun and get in a SAISA regatta." 

As October winds down, the Tars start to wrap up the Fall season looking ahead to continued effort building the program and seeking a slot in SAISA's next championship.
