Rollins Closes Gulf Coast Invitational with Win

GULF SHORES, Ala. (February 4, 2018) – The Tars were victorious in their final game at the Gulf Coast Invitational, defeating Tuskegee 9-1 in six innings.  Rollins improves to 2-3 in the new campaign, while the Golden Tigers fall to 0-5 this season.

Abby Summers stifle Tuskegee from the circle, allowing just one hit, and one, unearned run through six innings.  The Tars offense was balanced, with five players tallying at least one RBI, and six players scoring the team's nine runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The game was scoreless through two, but the Tars broke through in the third to hang four runs on the board.  Talia Kentoffio, seeing her first action in the Blue and Gold, started the rally, crossing home on a Jordan Davis bunt single.  Chandler Middlebrook then doubled, tallying two RBI as Davis and Abigail Sexton both scored. Senior Brianne Lint capped the frame by scoring Middlebrook with an RBI single.
  • The Tars would score in each of the next two frames with Davis and Amanda Guglietta each scoring.  Guglietta tallied her first run of 2018 on Kentoffio's firt collegiate RBI.  At the end of five Rollins held a 6-1 advantage.
  • Abby Summer retired the side in order in the sixth, and the Tars offense did the rest.  Middlebrook, Lint and Whitney Foyer each earned RBI as the Tars put the game to bed early.
