Dominant Pitching Leads Rollins to Pair of Wins

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 9, 2019) – Rollins got a pair of strong pitching performances to maintain their perfect start to 2019.  Rollins defeated Bentley 3-0 and 4-1 in doubleheader action, improving to 4-0 on the year.  The Falcons fall in their first two games of the season to sit at 0-2.

Game 1:
Ashley Worrell starred in game one.  The freshman threw a complete game, giving up just three scattered hits, while striking out seven.  At the plate the Oviedo, Florida native went 2-3 with a double and an RBI.  Talia Kentoffio also registered a 2-3 stat line, with a double and an RBI.

Worrell retired the first ten batters she faced before the Tars' offense gave her a lead in the fourth.  The first two Tars reached base in the frame, before a sacrifice bunt, a sacrifice fly, and a Kentoffio double plated a pair to put Rollins up 2-0.  Worrell then helped her own cause in the next inning, driving home Davis with a RBI double to deep center field.  The Tars were never threatened down the stretch, registering their third win of the year.

Game 2:
Abby Summers held a no-hitter into the sixth, and gave up just one run on one hit, to lead Rollins in game two.  The senior also fanned 14 batters, just three off the Rollins record for a seven inning game.  Raiven Bryant knocked her third double of the season, registering a RBI, and scoring a pair of runs.

The Tars scored early, loading the bases in the first inning.  Davis reached on a leadoff walk, then scored on an Amanda Guglietta fielder's choice.  However, Rollins could not extend the lead leaving the bases loaded.  Worrell sent Davis across the plate for the second time with an sacrifice fly in the fourth.  Bryant then came home on a Brianna Ernst single, giving Rollins a 3-0 lead in the fourth.  The Falcons pulled a run back with their first hit, an RBI double, in the top of the sixth.  Rollins would extend the lead back to three in the bottom of the frame with Bryant's second run.  Summers struck out the side in the second, third, and fifth, before retiring Bentley one, two, three in the seventh to lock up the win.

Up Next:
Rollins and Bentley will finish their three-game set tomorrow, Saturday, February 9, with a single game.  First pitch is again set for 9 a.m.
