WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 9, 2019) – Rollins completed the sweep of the Bentley Falcons winning the series finale 2-1 in walk off fashion at Rollins Softball Stadium. The Tars now sit at 5-0 on the year. The Falcons drop to 0-3 on their season opening trip.
Jordan Davis and Talia Kentoffio each registered multiple hits to lead Rollins. Kentoffio added a run scored as well. Brianna Ernst and Amanda Guglietta each tallied RBI in the extra frame to help Rollins to the win. Grace Street got the start, giving up one hit in five innings of work. Ashley Worrell picked up the win, tossing the final three innings.
Street got her first start of the season for Rollins. The senior held the Falcons hitless for four plus innings before leaving in the sixth. After the Falcons got a pair of base runners in the frame Ashley Worrell entered the circle and retired three batters in a row to hold the contest scoreless. Neither team could tally in regulation as the game went to extra innings. Bentley scored in the top of the extra frame after the Tars had a miscommunication in the field. But Rollins held the Falcons to only the one run to give themselves a chance in the bottom of the inning. Kara Wagstaff reached third on a Lindsay Gehring bunt, to put the Tars in business. Ernst then ripped an RBI single to tie the contest. With two on and two outs Guglietta, a junior, came to the plate as a pinch hitter and laced a ball into the right centerfield gap, scoring Kentoffio and giving Rollins the win.
The Tars will start Sunshine State Conference play with a trip to Miami Shores to take on Barry. Game one against the Bucs is set for Friday, February 15, at 6 p.m.
