SET-UP:
The Tars won their first Sunshine State Conference series of 2019, but will have to recover from their first loss of the year as they head to SSC preseason favorite, Saint Leo, for a three game set.  Rollins defeated Barry in the first two games of their series last weekend, extending their season opening winning streak to seven, but found their bats stifled in the finale, falling to the Bucs for their first defeat of the campaign.  Saint Leo started the year ranked No. 5 in the NFCA National Preseason Coaches Poll, but have stumbled out of the gate, going 2-3 at both the Gulf Coast Invitational and the NFCA Leadoff Classic.  In a matchup that has frequently had SSC Championship and NCAA implications, both the Tars and Lions will look to pick up key wins.

WHO TO WATCH:
Rollins:
The Tars lead the SSC with a .294 team batting average, and sit second in both slugging and on base percentage.  Jordan Davis continues to swing a hot bat, leading the conference with a .560 batting average.  The centerfielder also sits fourth in the SSC with nine steals, and leads Rollins with six runs scored.  Talia Kentoffio checks in at fourth in the Sunshine State with a .458 average, she leads Rollins and is tied for sixth in the SSC with four doubles.  Catcher Lindsey Gehring sits behind Kentoffio in fifth with a .450 average.  The sophomore is leading the conference with a .900 slugging percentage.

The Tars pitching rotation of Ashley Worrell, Abby Summers, and Grace Street lead the SSC with a 0.75 ERA, and sit tied for second with 72 strikeouts, despite playing the second fewest amount of games among conference schools.  Worrell has posted a 4-1 record, with a 0.70 ERA in 30 innings, while Summers has struck out 38 batters in 21 innings.

Saint Leo:
Last time out the Lions managed to take two of three from the then No. 18 ranked Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish, bringing their overall record back to the .500 mark.  Saint Leo received votes in the most recent NFCA National Poll, dropping from their opening spot of No. 5.  The Lions sit squarely in the middle of the SSC, ranking sixth with a .279 batting average.  Kacie Kelly leads the Lions with a .404 batting average, tallying six doubles and six RBI so far.  The junior is a two-time First Team All-SSC honoree, and a 2018 NFCA Third Team All-American.  The Jacksonville, Florida native was named to the 2019 NFCA DII Player of the Year Watch List, and is the reigning SSC Player of the Week.  Shyanne DuBois, Kendyl Crean, and Ashley Morris all also hitting above the .300 mark.

The Lions 2.95 ERA ranks near the bottom of the SSC, with opposing batters hitting .245 against Saint Leo pitching.  Auria Mounts leads the staff with a 4-4 record, a 1.85 ERA, and 31 strikeouts.  Sara Neuman, Rachel Bean, and Sadi Avants have all seen action in the circle as well.

NOTES:

  • Jordan Davis and Sarah Harrison are tied for tenth in Rollins history with 42 steals.
  • Abby Summers continues to average more than 12 strikeouts per seven innings; the Rollins single season record is 10.71 by Rachael Foster in 2009.
