Worrell No-Hitter Gives Tars Win Over Mocs

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 15, 2019) – Ashley Worrell shut Florida Southern down, throwing her first collegiate no-hitter, as the Tars took the series opener, 2-0, over the Mocs.  Rollins improves to 23-5 on the year, and 9-4 in Sunshine State Conference play.  The Mocs drop to 9-12 overall and 4-9 in SSC action.

Talia Kentoffio tallied a pair of hits and added an RBI to lead the Rollins offense.  Lindsay Gehring drove in her team leading 25th run of the season.  Jordan Davis went 1-3 at the plate, and scored a run.  Worrell threw the full seven innings, giving up just three baserunners, on two walks, and one hit batter.  The freshman struck out eight.

Both pitchers were dominant threw the first six frames.  Worrell retired the side in order in the third, fifth, and sixth, as the game remained 0-0.  The Tars finally gave their freshman hurler support in the bottom of the sixth.  Davis led off the inning with a bunt single.  The centerfielder stole second, and advanced to third on a sacrifice fly.  Gehring then plated Davis with a single to left field, scoring the first run of the game.  Kara Wagstaff entered to pinch run for Gehring, and progressed to second on a Grace Street sacrifice bunt. Kentoffio then blooped a single that fell just in front of the left fielder, allowing Wagstaff to round the bases and give the Tars an insurance run.  Worrell then sat down three Mocs in the seventh, inducing three quick groundouts, to seal her no-hitter.
