MELBOURNE, Fla. (March 25, 2019) – Ashley Worrell has been named Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week, league officials announced Monday. It is the first career weekly honor for the freshman from Oviedo, Florida.
Worrell no-hit regional foe West Georgia, as part of the Tars doubleheader sweep, in her only start this week. The freshman tossed the full seven innings, and struck out four in the effort. The no-hitter was Worrell's second in her last three starts, after throwing her first against Florida Southern the previous weekend.
This season Worrell is leading a dominant Tars' pitching staff with 17 appearances, 16 starts, and 101.0 innings pitched. The Hagerty graduate has tallied a team best 13 wins, tossing 14 complete games. She has registered 82 total strikeouts, and has maintained a 1.25 ERA.
The Tars return to conference play on Friday, March 29, with a visit to Eckerd. The first game of the three game series will get underway at 6 p.m.
