Freshmen Performances Give Tars 1-0 Win Over Eagles

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 12, 2019) – The Tars got a dominant pitching performance from Ashley Worrell, and scored just enough, to capture a 1-0 win in the series opener against Embry-Riddle, at Rollins Softball Stadium.  The win bumps Rollins' record 34-7, and 16-6 in Sunshine State Conference play.  The Eagles fall to 18-18 overall, and 10-12 in SSC action.

Raiven Bryant registered her first collegiate homerun, tallying the games lone score.  Sarah Harrison was the only Tar to tally multiple hits, going 2-3.  Jordan Davis earned one hit, to extend her hit streak to 14 games.  Ashley Worrell threw a complete game shutout, giving up seven scattered hits while striking out six.

Worrell retired the side in order in the second.  Behind the freshman the Tars' defense turned a double play to eliminate the threat from a lead off walk in the fourth.  Talia Kentoffio caught a line drive and threw the ball to Brianna Ernst at first to clear the bases.

Bryant's homerun led off the bottom of the fifth.  The freshman shortstop put her first career long ball over the left center field wall.

Worrell retired the Eagles one, two, three in the sixth.  Embry-Riddle threatened in the seventh, putting two runners on with back-to-back two out singles, but the freshman pitcher recorded the third out, via the strike out, sealing the win.
