Tars Split Low Scoring Doubleheader

FORT LAUSERDALE, Fla. (April 19, 2019) – The Tars split a doubleheader against Nova Southeastern.  Rollins took game one, 2-1, but could not generate a run in the rubber match of the series, falling 1-0.

The Tars move to 35-11 overall and 17-10 in the Sunshine State Conference.  Nova Southeastern ends the series at 27-20, and 16-11 in SSC action.

Game 1:
Lindsay Gehring, Talia Kentoffio, Brianna Ernst, and Sarah Harrison all tallied hits for the Tars.  Abigail Sexton and pinch runner Brycyn Smith scored the pair of Rollins' runs.  Ashley Worrell gave up just one run in a complete game effort, tallying win number 19 on the season. 

Suka Van Gurp went 1-3 and scored the lone Sharks' run.  Lexie Storrer threw the full seven innings, giving up two unearned runs. 

Neither team could generate a threat for the first three innings.  Rollins took the lead in the top of the fourth.  The Tars got a pair of runners on with one out.  Talia Kentoffio then put the ball in play and forced an error by the Sharks, allowing a pair of runs to score. 

Nova Southeastern pulled one run back in the bottom of the sixth.  The Sharks then loaded the bases in the seventh, but Worrell induced a fly out to seal the victory. 

Game 2:
Lindsay Gehring led Rollins with a pair of hits, while Ashley Worrell, Tayler Holt, and Sarah Harrison each registered a single base knock.  Grace Street tossed a complete game, allowing just one run on three hits, with six strikeouts. 

Suka Van Gurp went 2-3 in the second game, and tallied the contest's lone RBI.  Miriam Schmoll gave up just five hits in a complete game for the Sharks. 

The Sharks took the lead with a two out rally in the third.  Taking advantage of a walk and a double to plate a run. 

Rollins could not mount an offensive threat, advancing only one runner beyond first base in the final frames. 

Up Next:
The Tars close the season next weekend against Lynn.  Rollins will host the Fighting Knights at Rollins Softball Stadium; game one is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, April 26.
