Rollins continues to fight for a postseason berth, as they close out the regular season against Lynn this weekend. The Tars dropped a pair at Nova Southeastern last weekend, as neither team scored more than twice in any game in the low scoring series. The Tars are fourth in the Sunshine State Conference, and seventh in the South Region heading into their final weekend. Lynn enters the weekend near the bottom of the SSC standings, and the Tars will look to close 2019 with a trio of wins, as they try to extend their campaign.
WHO TO WATCH:
The Tars are led by Jordan Davis, who enters the week tenth in the country, and first in the SSC, with a .487 batting average. The senior also leads the conference with 40 steals, and paces Rollins with 35 runs scored. Lindsay Gehring is hitting .388 on the year, while leading the team in slugging at .651. The sophomore has tallied seven doubles and a team leading nine homeruns on the campaign, to go along with a team best 36 RBI. Talia Kentoffio, who is batting .315 and Ashley Worrell, who has driven home 32 runs, also feature prominently in a lineup that is batting .288 on the season.
Worrell also highlights the Tars pitching rotation. The freshman has made 26 appearances, tallying 19 wins, and registered a 1.41 ERA over 164.1 innings. Abby Summers leads the Tars with 131 strikeouts and a 1.17 ERA in her 16 visits to the circle. Grace Street has also pitched for Rollins, tossing 55.0 innings, and recording a 1.40 ERA.
The Fighting Knights picked up a win in their series finale against Embry-Riddle, last time out, breaking an 11 game losing streak. Lynn sits ahead of only Barry in the SSC standings, while they are at the bottom of the conference in hitting, with a team average of .225. Shayle Arenson leads the Fighting Knights with a .309 average. The infielder also paces the squad with 18 RBI, a .408 slugging percentage, and 13 doubles. Kayla Sheffield supplies the pop for Lynn, hitting a team best four homeruns. Mia Veliz has stolen 17 bases in 18 attempts on the base paths.
Sheffield and Allyson Jameston split the pitching duties for Lynn. Sheffield leads the team with eight wins, while Jameston has amassed a team best 72 strikeouts, with a 2.65 ERA. Olivia Saviskas also sees action in the circle.
The will wait to learn their postseason fate. The Tars enter the week as the seventh ranked team in the South Region. The Division II Softball NCAA Selection Show is scheduled for Monday, May 6, at 10 a.m.
