Tars Third at Regionals; Punch Ticket to Nationals

GREENWOOD, S.C. (September 28, 2016) - Rollins men's and women's water ski teams took third place at the NCWSA Eastern Regional and earned a spot in the national championship for the eight-straight season. The Rollins men won the event while the women finished third.

The men's team was led by Dorien Llewellyn who was first overall by earning a second place finish in slalom, third place finish in tricks, and fourth place finish in jumps. Junior Joshua Briant was right behind Llewellyn with a second place overall finish. Briant earned first in tricks, third in jumps, and tied for fifth in slalom.

Llewellyn was the top Tar in the slalom, earning second place with a 1.5 buoys at 39.5' off. While Briant tied for 5th with 3.5 buoys at 38'off.

Briant won the tricks event with a score of 6,820 which led the men's team to a first place finish overall in tricks. Llewellyn recorded 340 points for third place while Rafael De Osma earned seventh place with 300 points to contribute to the overall team score.

Briant's jump of 154 feet gave him a third place finish while Llewellyn took fourth place with a jump of 142 feet. The Tars finished second overall in the jump event.

The women's team was led by senior Chantal Singer who finished fourth overall. Singer placed fourth in tricks, fifth in slalom, and 18th in jumps. Silvia Zarrate finished sixth overall for the Tars by finishing 10th in tricks, tied for 12th in slalom, and 12th in jumps.

Singer led Rollins in slalom with 1.5 buoys at 38' off for a fifth place finish. Aliya Mctavish finished 10th in slalom with 1.00 buoys at 35' off.

Natalia Cuglievan earned a first place finish in tricks for Rollins with a score of 4,680 and 320 points which helped Rollins earn a second place finish overall in tricks.

The Tars were third at the Regional last year en route to a fifth place finish at the national championship.

Next, Rollins will compete at the NCWSA National Championship October 13-15 on Imperial Lakes in El Centro California. The Tars have captured four national championships in program history, most recently back-to-back in 2002-2003.
