GROVELAND, Fla. (October 2, 2017) – For the 11th-straight season, Rollins water ski punched its ticket to the NCWSA National Championship with a runner-up finish at the Eastern Regional Championship over the weekend.
Alabama won the regional championship behind second-place finishes in slalom and tricks, while winning jumps. The Crimson Tide totaled 5,845 points. Rollins was third in slalom, won tricks and placed third in jumps for 5,560 points, while rival Florida Southern (5,325 points) was third overall.
Dorien Llewellyn won the overall individual championship to lead the Tars men. He was second in slalom, recording 3.5 buoys at 39.5 feet off, placed first in tricks with a score of 5,970 and cleared a distance of 171 feet to take third in jumps.
Josh Briant and Rafael De Osma tied for third place individually. De Osma tied for sixth in slalom, was runner-up in tricks and finished ninth in jumps. Briant tied for third in slalom, took eighth in tricks and was sixth in jumps. The senior and world champion suffered an injury on the final jump of the event and will be unavailable for the national championships.
Miks, Cinis finished seventh, finishing in a tie for ninth in slalom, tying for 13th in tricks and taking 16th in jumps.
The Rollins men were second in their division, tying for first in slalom and taking runner-up in both tricks and jumps.
The Rollins women used a dominant performance in tricks to finish second, right behind Alabama in their division.
Jenna Morgan topped the individual standings with to lead the Tars women. She tied for fifth in slalom, took third in tricks and tied for fourth in jumps. Emma Morgan finished fourth behind a T11th in slalom, sixth in tricks and T4th finish in jumps. Silvia Zarrate was sixth in the individual standings for the Tars.
Rollins had five skiers in the top seven in tricks, including each of the top three spots. World record holder Erika Lang cruised to a victory with a score of 5,870. Natalia Cuglievan was second with a score of 4,200 and Jenna Morgan was third (2,470). Emma Morgan took sixth and Zarrate seventh.
Rollins has finished fifth in each of the last three NCWSA National Championships.
The 2018 edition will take place Oct. 19-21 at Tri-Lakes in Zachary, Louisiana.
