ZACHARY, La. (October 18, 2017) - Rollins men's and women's water ski programs are set to battle for the national title Oct. 19-21 at the Connelly Skis 2017 NCWSA Nationals.
Tri-Lakes in Zachary, Louisiana will be the site of the competition with Baton Rouge serving as the host city.
Rollins enters the national championships as the fourth-ranked team in the nation coming out of regional qualifying. Louisiana-Monroe is No. 1, followed by at No. 2 Louisiana-Lafayette and third-ranked Alabama.
The Tars were runners-up at the Eastern Regional Championships earlier in October, finishing just 285 points behind Alabama for the top spot.
For the men, Dorien Llewellyn won the overall individual championship behind a victory in tricks. He was runner-up at the national championships a year ago. Rollins will be without the services of defending national tricks champion Josh Briant, who suffered an injury on the last jump of the Eastern Region championship.
The Rollins women were runner-up in their division at Regionals, led by Jenna Morgan's individual championship. Current world record holder Erika Lang returns after sitting out last season due to injury. She will be looking for a third collegiate national title to close out one of the most decorated careers in Rollins history.
Rollins has won four NCWSA National Championships, including back-to-back titles in 2002 and 2003. The Tars were fifth each of the last three seasons with Rollins qualifying for the Division I national championships each of the past 11 years.
Day one action starts at 7 a.m. local time with the men's and women's slalom. Friday will see the men's trick and women's jump competition and the national title will be decided Saturay with women's trick and men's jump. Fans can catch all the action live on the NCWSA Nationals Host Site.
