PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia (August 20, 2019) – A number of current and former Tars concluded a busy summer schedule by competing in the 2019 International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation World Championships last week. Ten Rollins waterskiers took to the waters in Malaysia, with four picking up hardware on the trip.
Natalia Cuglievan, representing Peru, added to her ever growing trophy case with a silver medal finish in the Tricks competition. Recent graduates Chantel Singer and Erika Lang also advanced to the trick finals, earning eighth and 12th place respectively for the United States. Neilly Ross, who will enter Rollins in 2019, also earned a spot in the medal round, finished 11th, while representing Canada.
Graduate Delfina Cuglievan picked up an 10th place finish in the slalom, headlining the Rollins contingent in the event which also featured Ross, Lang, and sophomore Alejandra De Osma.
Alejandra De Osma was the only female Tar to compete in jumps, and challenge for the overall crown. She finished 14th after all three events.
Dorien Llewellyn, of Canada, and senior Rafael De Osma, of Peru, each entered the overall contest on the men's side, while graduate Russell Gay represented the United State in the tricks competition. Rising sophomore Diego Font also competed in the slalom for Mexico.
Llewellyn finished fifth in tricks and his way to a sixth place finish in the overall competition. De Osma finished behind his former teammate in 14th place. Gay advanced to the medal round of the tricks event, finishing 12th.
Llewellyn and Ross each picked up gold medals as part of Canada's Team Championship squad. Lang helped the United States to a silver in the team event. Delfina Cuglievan, Natalia Cunglievan, Alejandra De Osma, and Rafael De Osma all tallied points to help Peru to a 10th place finish, while Font scored for Mexico on their way to the 14th spot.
Rollins waterski season gets underway on Saturday, September 7, when the Tars make the trip to Polk City to take on Florida Southern.
