MELBOURNE, Fla. (October 26, 2017) – The Rollins women's basketball team was picked as the favorite to win its 14th Sunshine State Conference title, topping the SSC preseason poll, released Thursday.

Rollins earned 88 total votes and three first-place nods to top the poll. Nova Southeastern was second with 82 points and two first place votes while Tampa (78 pts) got two first place votes. Defending conference champion Eckerd checked in a No. 4 with 74 votes, including two first-place. Embry-Riddle and Florida Southern (two first place votes) tied for fifth with 66 points.

The conference's 11 head coaches vote on the poll and are not allowed to rank their own teams.

The Tars have won 13 SSC regular season championships, the most of any other school in the league, with the last coming in 2012. Last year the Tars won the final 12 games of the regular season and finished in a tie for second in the league standings. Rollins carried the SSC flag in the NCAA Tournament, beating Florida Southern and Eckerd en route to a Sweet-16 appearance.

The first of the Tars three preseason exhibition games tips off at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 26 at home against Daytona State.

Rollins starts its 2017-18 season on Saturday, November 10 facing Thomas University in Melbourne at noon. The SSC slate quickly follows with a home date against Florida Tech on Wednesday, November 15.
