MELBOURNE, Fla. (January 28, 2018) – The Tars all-time leader in blocked shots added another honor to her banner career as Carly McLendon was named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
The senior from Sanford, Florida averaged 10 points, 13 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in a pair of SSC games. She also shot 7-of-15 from the field and 6-of-7 at the free throw line during the week.
McLendon led the Tars defensive effort in a 58-54 win over Florida Tech Wednesday, tallying five points, one block and a game-high 10 rebounds. She was a force in the Tars double overtime loss at Lynn on Saturday with 15 points, a career-high 16 rebounds, four blocks and a steal. The double-double was an 11th for her career and also the 11th game with four or more blocks.
McLendon is 16th in the nation in blocks per game (2.76) and 18th in total blocks (47); both numbers easily the best in the Sunshine State Conference. Her 225 career blocks the this third most among active players nationally and the fifth most in SSC history. She needs five more to move into fourth place on the list.
McLendon has been named the SSC Defensive Player of the Week 11 times in her career, the third most in league history.
