SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (November 9, 2019) – Three Tars scored in double figures and Rollins leaves its trip to Puerto Rico undefeated after a 61-48 win over Puerto Rico Bayamon on Saturday.
Rollins (2-0) outscored Bayamon 18-8 in the second quarter and led by 14 at the break.
Rossinell De Garcia netted 16 to lead the Vaqueros, who fall to 0-2 on the year. Daynelisse Rivera and Alysha Cotto both scored 11.
The Tars shot 43 percent in the game, including 7-of-16 from long range. Bayamon was just 2-of-12 from deep and hit 47 percent overall. Rollins was beat on the glass, 29-28.
Led by the long range shooting of Jablonski, the Tars led 16-12 after the first 10 minutes, holding Bayamon scoreless the final 4:13 of the quarter. The offense exploded in the second as Rollins raced out to a 34-20 lead at the break.
After going up by as many as 17 on a Yari Martinez-Toro triple, Bayamon battled back and to within nine with 6:51 to play in the third. Jablonski then hit her third 3-pointer of the day and Rachel Lia followed with a jumper to get the Tars back on track with the visitors from Winter Park taking a 47-34 lead into the fourth. Rollins wouldn't let UPRB any closer down the stretch and picked up a second straight win to start the season.
Rollins will next head to Melbourne for the South Region tip off, November 15-16. The Tars face Clayton State at 4 p.m. on Friday before again clashing with Bayamon at 2 p.m. on Saturday the 16th.
