PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (October 9, 2017) – Rollins posted the two best rounds of any school in the field on Monday and leads the GolfRank Invitational by five strokes.
The Tars will play a final 18 holes Tuesday at PGA National's Fazio Course in Palm Beach Gardens, seeking a first win of the young season.
Rollins turned in a first round 298 and was two shots better in the afternoon (296) to sit 18-over with 594 strokes. Lynn (301-298) is second at 23-over and Saint Leo (301-303) is 28-over in third place. All but one of the 11 Sunshine State Conference schools are in the field of 13.
Seher Atwal is tied for second, leading the way for the Tars. The sophomore started the day with a solid 75 behind 15 pars and three bogeys. She then jumped nine spots up the leaderboard with a second-round 71, playing the back-nine at two under. Atwal's two-over score of 146 is eight back of leader Paloma Vaccaro (68-70) of West Florida.
Lexie Toth is a shot back of Atwal in a tie for sixth with 147 strokes (+3). The senior opened the day with a one-over 73 and came back in the afternoon with a two-over 74, playing the final nine at even par. Madison Lellyo is tied for 27th with rounds of 76-77 for a nine-over 153.
Freshman Lara van Staden made a splash in her first collegiate round, shooting a one-over 73, and coming back with an 81 to sit tied for 31st with a 10-over 154. Fellow freshman Sophie Faulkner is alone in 39th with 156 strokes after rounds of 81-75.
Selin Timur leads a quartet of Rollins individuals and is tied for 36th with an 11-over par 155. The sophomore turned in rounds of 78-77 on the day.
The Nova Southeastern-hosted GolfRank Invitational will start the final round at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, October 10. Fans can follow the action live at GolfStat.com.
