Tars at Nittany Lion Invitational for Season Opener

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (September 20, 2018) – The Rollins women's golf team heads north to begin its 2018-19 season, participating in the Nittany Lion Invitational September 22-23. 


Rollins is the lone non-Division I team in the 16-team in the field, headlined by host Penn State. Teams will play two rounds on Saturday, Sept. 22 with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The third and final round starts with a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday, Sept. 23. 

The Tars checked in at No. 8 in the WGCA Division II Preseason Coaches Poll. Washington at No. 16 in the Division I poll is the only other team in the field to be ranked.

Rollins brings four returners and one newcomer to the Nittany Lion Invitational. Seher Atwal headlines the starting-five, coming off an All-America season a year ago. The junior led the squad with a 74.47 stroke average, two individual wins and seven top-10 finishes in 11 events. Selin Timur was fourth on the team with a 77.97 stroke average and one top-five finish.

Lara van Staden played in 10 events as a freshman last season and posted a 79.07 stroke average. Sophie Faulkner returns for the Tars after playing in four events before suffering an injury last season.

Newcomer Jennifer Jung, a freshman from Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, will be making her first collegiate start at Penn State.
