STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (September 22, 2018) – After opening the Penn State Nittany Lion Invitational in 13th, Rollins climbed two spots up the leaderboard to sit 11th heading into Sunday's final round.
The Tars shot 314 to open and came back with a solid 301 second round to jump Bucknell and Yale with a 39-over score of 615.
Washington leads the field of 16 teams, comprised of all Division I teams except for Rollins. The Huskies are five-over (581) and lead host Penn State by four strokes (585). Rutgers (587), Seton Hall (595) and Navy (601) round out the top five.
"It was an honor to play with the host school and an NCAA Champion team," said Rollins Director of Golf and Head Coach Julie Garner. "This is a great experience for our players, and we started out a bit tight. We dug ourselves in a big hole in the first round but saw a nice improvement in the afternoon."
Seher Atwal leads the Tars after day one, posting rounds of 74-75 to sit tied for 19th at five-over. Jennifer Jung made a big jump from the first and second round, opening with an 80 and coming back six shots better with a 74 in the afternoon. The freshman is tied for 48th at 10-over. Sophie Faulkner turned in scores of 80-76 and is tied for 59th at 12-over.
"I'm really proud of Jennifer in her first 36-hole tournament day, shooting 74 in round two," added Garner. "Seher played solidly overall even with a lull in the middle of round two. Selin fought her swing most of the day and Sophie had some challenges on the greens but they both kept batting. Lara hit some really good shots but succumbed to some big numbers that prevented her from scoring better. I'm proud of their fight and we look forward to continuing our improvement tomorrow to close out the tournament!
Rollins will close the Nittany Lion Invitational Sunday, September 23 with a final 18 holes. The Tars are paired with Bucknell and Youngstown State, starting at 9am. Fans can follow along live at GolfStat.com.
