LAKELAND, Fla. (February 18, 2019) – Rollins junior Seher Atwal started the spring, championship season in a big way, winning medalist honors at the Lady Moc Classic.
Florida Southern served as host of the tournament at Grasslands Golf and Country Club in Lakeland.
Atwal was the only player with three rounds under par, shooting scores of 69-71-71 (211) for a wire-to-wire win. She held off runner-up Sofia Garcia Austt of Nova Southeastern by one stroke (69-73-70).
Rollins finished ninth of the 17 teams at the star-studded event that featured nine schools ranked in the WGCA Top-25 coming out of the fall season. The Tars turned in rounds of 305-298-304 for the tournament, to finish 43-over par (907).
Selin Timur finished in a tie for 39th, totaling a 15-over par 231 strokes. The junior posted scores of 79-75 on Monday and finished with a 77 on Tuesday.
Jennifer Jung moved up five spots on the leaderboard Tuesday into a tie for 43rd with a 16-over 232. She posted rounds of 76-79-77 at the event. Sophie Faulkner tied for 52nd place, shooting a 17-over 233 (81-73-79). Lara van Staden tied for 87th with scores of 85-82-80 (+31).
Nova Southeastern won the team title, posting an 18-over score of 882 (287-204-291). Barry and Lynn tied for second at 27-over.
For Atwal, the individual victory is a third of her collegiate career and first this season. As a sophomore she tied for first at the Christian Brothers Spring Classic and outright won the Harvard Invitational.
Rollins will next host the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational, March 11-12. The Golden Bear Club at Keene's Pointe will be the host course for the second consecutive year.
