CLEVELAND, Tenn. (May 6, 2019) – Rollins shook off a sluggish start Monday and landed seventh after the opening round of the NCAA Division II South Region Championships.
The Tars started on the back-nine and were collectively 13-over at the turn but settled in and posted a first round 303. The score puts Rollins nine-shots off the pace with Florida Tech's six-over leading the way. Saint Leo is second at seven-over, Nova Southeastern third at nine-over and both Florida Southern and Limestone tied for fourth at 10-over.
Jung had the Tars most consistent day, starting with a birdie on first hole and playing the first-nine at one-over. She got to even par with a birdie to start the second-nine and traded five pars with three bogeys the rest of the way. Van Staden also started with a birdie on the first hole and hit the turn at even par. She took a double-bogey to start the second-nine, but played just one-over the rest of the way.
Selin Timur is tied for 27th with an opening round 76. She was four-over after the first four holes before carding a birdie on the fifth hole and playing even the rest of her round. Seher Atwal took a rare triple bogey on No. 12 and found herself four-over at the turn. The nation's fourth-ranked golfer was six over before notching a birdie on No. 8.
Sophie Faulkner shot an opening round 80 and is tied for 54th at eight-over.
Florida Tech's Lucy Eaton, leads the way with a four-under 68 while Pilar Martinez of Limestone and Isabel Nesteus of Saint Leo are tied for second at two-under.
