Rollins Women’s Golf Taps Devanshi Naik as Assistant Coach

WINTER PARK, Fla. (August 6, 2019) – Rollins Director of Golf and Head Women's Golf Coach Julie Garner has announced the hiring of Devanshi Naik as Assistant Coach. A former standout student-athlete at Louisiana-Monroe, Naik comes to Winter Park after serving as Graduate Assistant at Central Michigan the past two seasons.

"I am ecstatic to have Dev join our golf program," said Garner. "She has extensive experience as a player both on her national team as well as having been a student-athlete. Her graduate assistant coaching tenure at Central Michigan was met with high praise from all who know her including coaches for whom she did not even play. As a student-athlete she demonstrated her commitment to high achieving academics. Her life journey is ideally suited to the Rollins mission of developing global citizens and responsible leaders. We can't wait to get started!"

Naik was born in the United Kingdom and raised in Lusaka, Zambia where she developed a passion for golf. She became the country's top-ranked player and competed in tournaments all over the world and was named the Junior Sports Woman of the Year by the National Sports Council of Zambia. Naik's college career started at Western Texas College where she twice earned All-America honors and won both the Sam Houston Invitational and South Padre Brown Invitational.

After two seasons at WTC and graduating with a 4.0 GPA, Naik joined Louisiana-Monroe and participated in 19 tournaments over the final two years of her playing career. In 57 rounds, she posted a 79.98 scoring average and as a senior finished tied for seventh at the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagle Jam. She was a member of the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List, President's List, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and earned a B.A of Science in Kinesiology with Sum Cum Laude distinctions.

As a coach, Naik has assisted in leading CMU to new heights. The Chippewas broke nearly all individual and team records under Naik's leadership, moved up 21 spots in the national ranking from the previous season and finished third at the Mid-American Conference Fall Preview, bettering a ninth place finish the year prior.

"I am beyond honored to serve as the Rollins College Women's Assistant Golf Coach," said Naik. "I am especially grateful to Julie Garner, Pennie Parker, and Grant. H. Cornwell for granting me this incredible opportunity and entrusting me with helping the future of their women's golf program. I am extremely excited to join Coach Garner and her continued success with Rollins College. It's such a great time to be a Tar!"

Rollins continues to set the standard for excellence in collegiate women's golf. Under WGCA Hall of Fame inductee Julie Garner, the Tars have won six NCAA Division II National Championships and boast 13 national titles in the program's history.
