Tars Continue to Ascend National Rankings

Rollins Climbs to Eighth on IWLCA Poll, Sits Ninth on NIKE/US Lacrosse DII Top 20

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 2, 2018) – Having won their last 10 games, the Rollins women's lacrosse team continues to ascend the rankings, climbing to their highest ranking yet this season at No. 8 this week on the IWLCA Division II Coaches Poll, organization officials announced Monday.

The Tars, who enter the week with a record of 11-2, climb one spot to No. 8 this week, marking their highest ranking yet this season.  Florida Southern (12-0) again leads the way, grabbing 23 of 25 first place votes. There was little movement in the top ten spots, and the top five remained exactly the same this week with Adelphi (9-1) in second, Lindenwood (12-0) in third, followed by Le Moyne (9-0) at No. 4 and Florida Tech (10-1) at No. 5.

LIU Post remains at No. 6 again this week, and despite Rollins having defeated them earlier in the season, Limestone checks in one spot higher than the Tars on this week's poll, coming in at No. 7.   Behind the Tars' eighth-place position, Mercy earns the nod at No. 9, and Pace checks in at No. 10.  Indianapolis (6-3) dropped from eighth to 15th after suffering two losses last week, allowing Pace (6-3) to enter the top-10 for the first time this season.  Tiffin (7-3) returns to the poll at #25, while Queens (5-7) drops out of the rankings, but is still receiving votes.

The Sunshine State Conference continues to be well represented once again this week, with Florida Southern (No. 1), Florida Tech (No. 5), Rollins (No. 8), and Tampa (No. 16) all earning a nod on this weeks' standings.

Notable games this week include No. 18 New Haven hosts No. 10 Pace, and ninth-ranked Mercy travels to No. 17 New York Tech on Tuesday to kick off the week's slate of Top-25 games. Wednesday's action includes No. 24 Lock Haven at No. 20 East Stroudsburg, 23rd-ranked Assumption at No. 4 Le Moyne, top-ranked Florida Southern at No. 8 Rollins, and fifth-ranked Florida Tech at No. 16 Tampa. The weekend's games between ranked opponents include a matchup with No. 20 East Stroudsburg against No. 21 Indiana (PA), Florida Tech against Rollins, No. 6 LIU Post versus second-ranked Adelphi, and 19th-ranked Mercyhurst at Lock Haven.

The Tars climb from tenth to ninth this week on the NIKE/US Lacrosse Division II Top 20, earning their highest ranking on the NIKE/USL Top 20 standings this season.  The top seven remain the same from last week's rankings, with Florida Southern claiming the top spot, Lindenwood checking in at No. 2, and Adelphi claiming third.  Le Moyne (No. 4), Florida Tech (No. 5), West Chester (No. 6), and Mercy (No. 7) follow, while LIU Post makes the climb from ninth to eighth this week.  Rollins comes in at No. 9, followed by Limestone at tenth.  Indianapolis makes the biggest drop on the Top 20 standings this week, falling from eighth to 20th, while Grand Valley State makes the largest climb, going from being unranked to sitting at No. 13 this week.

Rollins opens the month of April with their toughest competition yet, squaring up against No. 1 Florida Southern in SSC play on Wednesday, April 4.  The Tars and Mocs are set to clash at 7:30 p.m. at Cahall-Sandspur Field.  Fans who are unable to attend the game will be able to follow all of the action live on the Tars Sports Network on RollinsSports.com, as well as with live stats on TarsStats.com.
