LAKELAND, Fla. (April 27, 2018) – Hosting the Sunshine State Conference Tournament at its new home stadium, top-seed Florida Southern played inspired and beat fourth-seed Rollins 23-6 in a semifinal match-up Friday.
FSC (18-1) scored just 11 seconds into the game only to have German answer and tie the score 1-1 less than a minute later. The Mocs then went on a 5-0 run before German broke the streak with a free position shot goal at the 18:42 mark to get Rollins to within 6-2.
Southern scored the game's next eight goals before Rizk's score with 9:25 left in the half put the score at 13-3. FSC added three more scores in the waning minutes of the half and led 16-3.
Brock found the back of the net for the Tars with 1:05 left in the half as Rollins went into intermsission in a 16-4 hole.
After a Mocs goal to start the half, Cury tried to get Rollins back in the game with an early second-half goal and made the score 17-5. Southern then shut the door on the Tars with a 4-1 spurt to lead 21-5.
German scored again with 12:08 to play, but FSC tacked on two more goals and advanced to the finals of the Sunshine State Conference Championship.
Emil Santoli scored six times to lead the Mocs while Meghan O'Brian scored five times for Florida Southern.
Rollins will now await its fate when the NCAA Division II national championship selections are announced at 8:30 p.m., May 6 on NCAA.com.
