No. 5 Rollins Cages No. 21 Lions, 16-11

Tars Defeat Saint Leo in Top-25 Matchup


SAINT LEO, Fla.  (April 13, 2019) – The fifth-ranked Rollins Women's Lacrosse team earned a 16-11 victory over No. 21 Saint Leo University on Saturday morning at University Turf Stadium.  The win advances Rollins to a record of 13-1 and 4-1 in SSC play, while Saint Leo falls to 13-2, and 2-2 in SSC action.

Hannah Ashton led the Tars in goals with five, followed by Lily Rizk with four, and Paige Brock with three.  Rachel Valocchi netted two goals and two assists for four points on the day, while Kaitlin Young, and Maddie McVicker scored one goal apiece.  Kallie German led the team in assists with four, followed by two from Valocchi and Caroline Gastonguay, and one assist from Nikki StumpfLindsay Van Beck had a solid morning as she earned two ground balls, four draw controls, and a team high three caused turnovers.  Valocchi and Lilzy Rizk matched Van Beck in ground balls with two, while Gastonguay earned a team high four.  Leading the team in draw controls on the day was Maggie Dougherty with seven.  In goal for Rollins, Gabby Tanner faced 19 shots on goal from the Lions in 60 minutes, earning eight saves while allowing 11 goals.

Saint Leo was led by Lexie Walstad with four goals and one assist, while Janee DeLuca earned two goals and two assists.  Leslie Ferguson netted two goals of her own, followed by a goal and an assist from Sabrina Sanacore and Kaylah Walstad.  Delaney Chrisco earned a goal of her own, while Kaci Archer dished out one assist. Ashley Salvett won a team best five ground balls and three draw controls, while Sarah Pierson matched Salvett in draws with three.  Both Salvett and Chrisco earned a team best three caused turnovers apiece.  In goal, Rebecca Halley faced 28 shots from the Tars, earning 12 saves while allowing 16 goals in 60 minutes of action.

How it Happened:
Rollins ran out to a 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes and never looked back, holding onto a 7-3 advantage at halftime and adding nine more goals in the second half to the Lions' eight.

Notes:

  • When playing on the road this season, the Tars are 5-1. Rollins now leads the all-time series with Saint Leo, 9-1, and are 3-1 against the Lions when playing on their home turf.
  • Kallie German is one goal away from becoming the program's all-time leader in career goals.  Currently, she is tied with previous leader, Tyler Thomas `16, with 195 career goals.
  • With 106 career caused turnovers, Lindsay Van Beck is two away from becoming the program's all-time leader.  She needs to surpass leader Courtney Bianculli `13, who amassed 107 in her career with the Tars.
  • Rollins entered the game ranked No. 5 on the IWLCA DII Poll, and No. 5 on the US Lacrosse Top 20.
  • The Lions entered into Saturday's matchup ranked No. 21 on the IWLCA DII Poll, and No. 9 on the US Lacrosse Top 20
