Senior Duo Earns Second Conference Weekly Awards of the Season
MELBOURNE, Fla. (March 15, 2019) – After a week that saw the Tars roll to back-to-back wins over nationally-ranked opponents, Rollins seniors Kallie German and Lindsay Van Beck have been named Sunshine State Conference Players of the Week, league officials announced Monday.
This marks the second SSC Player of the Week award for both Van Beck and German this season, and is Van Beck's fourth of her career, and German's sixth all-time.
German helped the No. 5 Tars to two wins over nationally-ranked opponents on the week. In the Tars' 18-10 win over No. 5 Tampa, German earned a new program best for points in a game as she scored five goals and added six assists for an 11 point performance. German also added a caused turnover against the Spartans. The Centreville, Md. native wrapped up the week playing a key role in the Tars' 16-11 win over No. 21 Saint Leo, earning a game high four assists while winning a ground ball. For the week, German had 15 points, five goals, 10 assists, two ground balls, and caused one turnover. German leads the league in points per game (5.57), third in goals per game (3.14), and second in assists per game (2.43).
Van Beck helped the Tars to two wins over nationally-ranked opponents this week, earning three ground balls, six draw controls, and five caused turnovers. In the Tars' 18-10 win over No. 5 Tampa, Van Beck earned a ground ball, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers while helping to hold the Spartans to just 15 shots on goal. Van Beck then closed out the week helping the Tars defeat No. 21 Saint Leo, 16-11, earning two ground balls, four draw controls, and three caused turnovers while helping hold Saint Leo to just 19 shots on goal. During the week, Van Beck and the Tars' defense converted 21-of-33 clears and picked up 41 ground balls and allowed just three free position shots.
With one more regular season game to go, the Tars will return home to take on the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Wednesday, April 17. Game time against the Eagles is set for 7:30 p.m. at Cahall-Sandspur Field.
