Rollins Makes Triumphant Return to NCAA Tournament After Two Year Hiatus
WINTER PARK, Fla. (May 5, 2019) – After a two year hiatus, the Rollins women's lacrosse team returns to the NCAA post-season, earning the No. 3 seed in the South Region in this year's NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Tournament. This marks the fifth season the Tars have advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
Rollins (11-2) enters into the post-season as the No. 3 seed, and will face second-seeded Florida Southern (13-2) on May 10, at 3:00 PM. This will mark the second time the two teams have squared off against each other in the NCAA Tournament.
Earning the top seed in the South Region is the University of Tampa (12-2), who will take on the No. 4 seeded Queens University Royals (17-2) on May 10 at 11:00 a.m. The winner of that match-up will face the winner of the Rollins/Florida Southern contest on May 12 in the quarterfinals.
The Tars first made their NCAA Tournament appearance in 2012, where they fell to West Chester by a score of 19-10 in the Tournament Semifinals which were held in Louisville, Ky. Rollins returned to the post-season tournament the following year, earning an 11-10 win over Lock Haven in the Quarterfinals before falling to Limestone in double-overtime, 11-10, in the semifinal game in Owings Mills, Md. After a year away, the Tars returned to the NCAA Tournament in 2015, facing off against Lock Haven in the Quarterfinals where they fell by a score of 12-3. Despite a frustrating finish to 2015, the Tars bounced back in 2016, defeating West Chester in the First Round by a score of 9-8, before falling to Florida Southern in the Quarterfinals by a score of 8-5 in Lakeland,
This year's championship will be hosted by Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich. The Semifinals are set to take place on Friday, May 17, with the championship game scheduled for Sunday, May 19.
