SET-UP:
Returning to the national tournament after a two-year hiatus, the Rollins women's lacrosse team is primed and ready for South Region tourney action on Friday, May 10.  The Tars. Who earned the No. 3 seed in this year's regional standings, will face second-seed Florida Southern in the tournament First Round, which will be hosted by the South Region's top seed, University of Tampa.  Game time against the Moccasins is slated for 3 p.m., with links to live coverage available for both a live video broadcast as well as live stats.  The winner of Friday's matchup will advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals, which will be hosted by Tampa at noon on Sunday, May 12, and will feature the winner of both the Rollins/Florida Southern game as well as the winner of the Tampa/Queens contest.

TRACKING THE TARS:
The Tars checked in at No. 7 on the IWLCA Poll and No. 10 US Lacrosse Top 20 this week, and enter into post season with a record of 14-2.  After 16 games played this season, the Tars have scored 279 goals, averaging 17.44 per game, while earning 126 assists.  The Tars are averaging 37.50 shots per game, and own a shot percentage of .465 as a team. 

Hannah Ashton leads the team in goals with 52, followed by Kallie German with 49, and Paige Brock with 30.  German has amassed a team high 46 assists, good for 95 points on the season, followed by Caroline Gastonguay with 19, and 10 by both Ashton and Nikki StumpfGabby Tanner leads the team in ground balls with 28, while Lily Rizk has earned 25, and Gastonguay has notched 20 of her own.  Lindsay Van Beck has earned a team best 68 draw controls, and is followed closely by Maggie Dougherty with 64.  Van Beck has also notched a team high 23 caused turnovers, with German following with 15 of her own.  In goal, Tanner has played 808:43 minutes, earning 110 saves while allowing 115 goals, good for a goals against average of just 8.53 and a save percentage of .489.

TRACKING THE MOCCASINS:
Florida Southern checked in at No. 6 on the IWLCA Poll and No. 11 US Lacrosse Top 20 this week, and enter into NCAA Tournament with a record of 16-3.  After 19 games played this season, the Mocs have scored 349 goals, averaging 18.37 per game, while earning 160 assists.  FSC is averaging 36.84 shots per game, and own a shot percentage of .499 as a team. 

The Mocs are led by Riley Banatyne with 47 goals, followed by 36 from both Aubriana Benedetto and Grace Glinecki.  Marina Jozokos has notched a team best 25 assists, followed by 21 from A. Benedetto.  Sam Keesey has earned a team best 36 ground balls, followed by 33 from Becca Hill and 30 from Maliah Benedetto.  Both Dani Bursinger and Keesey lead the squad off the draw, with Bursinger pulling in 141 draw controls, while Keesey has won 107.  Keesey also leads the team in caused turnovers with 46.  In goal, Patricia Werker has played 650:39 minutes, earning 75 saves while allowing 93 goals.  Werker owns a save percentage of .446, and a goals against average of 8.58.

  • Friday's game against the Moccasins marks the second time the two teams will meet in an NCAA Tournament setting.  The first time the two teams squared off in a national tourney contest was on May 14, 2016, when the seventh-ranked Tars took on No. 3 Florida Southern in the Quarterfinals.  After a hard fought contest, the Mocs came out on top, 8-5, and went on to win the 2016 DII National Championship.
